Edwin Lewis Stephens memorabilia, 1894-1937 (bulk 1899-1937).

Bound in five printed volumes, memorabilia of Edwin Lewis Stephens consist primarily of typescripts of addresses and speeches; articles on various educational topics, both in typescript and in published form; and written accounts of the proceedings of meetings of Louisiana educational associations and conventions. Included among the speeches are graduation addresses at various local high schools and Louisiana universities, patriotic lectures concerning World War I and the United States' role in the conflict, and addresses on educational subjects before meetings of the Lafayette Rotary Club, the Louisiana Teachers' Association, and other groups. The articles include a large group of informal columns on educational subjects titled "Snap-shots and time exposures." Some copies of Louisiana school work, the journal in which the columns appeared, are included. Other articles concern live oaks, the history of Southwestern Industrial Institute, the history of Natchitoches, and Acadian education.

Edwin Lewis Stephens was a Louisiana educator and university administrator. He held teaching positions at Northwestern State College of Louisiana in Natchitoches, La., and at other Louisiana institutions before becoming the first president of Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute in Lafayette, La.
